64-year-old Master Blacksmith Akio Tasai from Sanjo, Japan has dedicated his life to making tools whose inner life is greater than the sum of their parts. Currently at the zenith of his career, Master Akio Tasai has long left the pragmatic side of toolmaking behind. For him, the play of fire and iron is a ritual act which gives the iron and steel being shaped a life of its own. The folds and ridges in the surface of the blade give the steel a wood-like appearance (Mokume) and make each chisel unique. Mainly used by Temple carpenters (miya daiku) in Japan, his deluxe chisels are sure to appeal to any woodworker with a deep appreciation of fine tools. Forged tang and hoop, select sandalwood handle.
